Trace

The hacker finds you. Type "trace me".

An anonymous hacker greets every viewer by name, opens a completely invented file on them, and traces them to a made-up street on a real map. Nothing real is ever looked up — and your viewers queue up to be next.

Trace is a TikTok LIVE game where an AI hacker "traces" your viewers one at a time. A viewer types trace me, the hacker pulls up their (entirely fictional) file, reads it out, and zooms a map from orbit down to a random street. It is the format that held 300+ concurrent viewers and gained thousands of followers across our test accounts in 48 hours.

How a trace plays out

Trace is not a round-based game — it is a show that never stops. Every viewer who arrives is a potential scene, and the hacker treats them that way from the second they join.

  1. A viewer joins. The hacker notices them by name, out loud, within seconds.
  2. They type "trace me". Their name goes into the queue on screen.
  3. The file opens. A codename, a list of absurd findings, and an "associate" — usually another real viewer who is watching right now.
  4. The trace. The map spins from orbit down to a street, and the hacker reads the invented address like he has just knocked on the door.
  5. Next. The hacker calls the next name, and the queue moves.

Why it works — the viewer is the content

Most stream games ask the audience to watch something. Trace makes the audience the something. Three mechanics do the heavy lifting:

1. The hook lands in the first three seconds

On TikTok you are competing with a swipe. A stranger scrolling past sees a masked figure, a map zooming towards a house, and a real person's name on screen. That is an incomplete story, and incomplete stories are very hard to swipe away from.

2. Everyone wants their own file

The moment a viewer hears someone else's file read out, they want theirs. Typing trace me costs nothing and carries no risk of looking foolish — the hacker does the performing, the viewer just has to exist. That is the lowest possible barrier to a first message, and a first message is the thing that turns a passer-by into a viewer.

3. Following is part of the game

A follow moves you to the front of the queue. It is announced constantly, it is honest, and it means the follower count and the queue grow at the same rate. This is where the "thousands of followers in 48 hours" number came from — not from asking, but from a queue people wanted to skip.

What keeps a room for hours

  • Hundreds of lines and a variety engine. The hacker keeps a ledger of what he has said tonight and to whom, calls back to earlier traces, and runs a bit through the whole session. Regulars notice the callbacks — that is why they stay.
  • Real viewers in every file. The "associate" named in each file is someone actually watching. Being named in a stranger's file is a reason to type.
  • Like goals with real payoffs. Milestones unlock short scenes and mystery hooks. The goals are visible, the ladder keeps climbing, and nothing is on a timer.
  • Interruptions. Every so often the feed cuts to static and comes back with a hook. It is the TV trick — give people a reason to see what happens next.
  • Queue discipline. Nothing cuts anything. Free traces are quick, the queue is capped so it never feels hopeless, and the hacker never leaves a name hanging.

Tested, not theorised. We ran Trace across several of our own TikTok accounts for 48 hours before writing this page. Streams held 300+ concurrent viewers and gained thousands of followers — with no camera, no ads and nothing bought. Your results will depend on your account and your room, but the format itself has been through a real test.

Built inside TikTok's rules

TikTok restricts LIVEs that solicit gifts on a timer, tie a gift to an outcome, or look like reproduced content. Trace was rebuilt from the ground up around those rules after we ran into them ourselves. Gifts are moments, never outcomes: a gift earns a longer, slower read, and the tiers are fixed and on screen. The map, the mask and the voice are all our own. And nothing real is ever looked up, displayed or implied about anyone — the entire "file" is fiction generated from a display name.

Setup

Trace runs as a single 1080×1920 browser source. Generate your link in the members area with your TikTok @username and a free chat key, add it to OBS or capture it in TikTok LIVE Studio, and go live. The TikTok setup guide covers both routes. You do not need a camera or a microphone — the hacker is the host.

Questions about Trace

Does Trace actually look anything up about my viewers?

No — and this is the whole design. Every "file" is generated on the spot from the viewer's display name and nothing else. The address at the end is a random, invented UK postcode on a public map. No profiles, no IPs, no real data of any kind are ever queried.

How do viewers get traced?

They type trace me in your TikTok chat. That puts them in the queue. Following the account moves them to the front, which is why the follower count climbs so fast on a good night.

What does the hacker actually say?

He reads the viewer's file out loud in a dry, sinister British voice: a codename, a handful of absurd "findings", an associate who is usually another real viewer in the room, and then the trace itself — the map zooming from orbit to a street. There are hundreds of lines, and a variety engine makes sure the room never hears the same run twice in a night.

Do I need to be on camera or talk?

No. Trace is designed to run as a complete show on its own — the hacker does all the talking. Plenty of streamers run it with no camera at all, which is part of why it can run for hours.

Is this safe under TikTok's LIVE rules?

We built it around them. There are no timed gift asks, no gift ever changes an outcome, and the game never displays or asks for anything real about a viewer. The on-screen labels are fixed and factual. We test every build on our own accounts before it ships.

What size and software do I need?

Trace is a 1080×1920 portrait stage. Add it as a Browser Source in OBS, or capture it as a window in TikTok LIVE Studio — our setup guide walks through both in a few minutes.

Which plan includes Trace?

Blaze and Inferno. Both start with a 7-day free trial, so you can test it on a real stream before paying anything.
