Mob Rule: treasury, army, people and faith bars above the castle, a council dilemma, and three options chat votes on by typing 1, 2 or 3

Mob Rule is a chat-controlled kingdom survival game. Each year the narrator poses a dilemma, chat votes 1, 2 or 3, and the kingdom's treasury, army, people and faith rise or fall. Walls go up, cathedrals rise, plague rolls in, the castle burns — and when one stat breaks, the reign ends.

How a reign plays out

  1. Year one. A fresh kingdom, four stats in the middle, a narrator with low expectations.
  2. The dilemma. A situation and three options appear. Chat has a short window to vote by number.
  3. The consequence. The winning option plays out: stats shift, the picture changes, the narrator comments.
  4. Repeat. Year after year, each decision a little more loaded than the last.
  5. The fall. Eventually something breaks. The ending is narrated to match, the years survived go on the board, and a new reign begins.

Why it works

The picture is the scoreboard

Nobody has to read a stat bar to know how the kingdom is doing. Walls, crops, crowds, smoke — the state of the reign is visible from across the room, and a viewer arriving mid-reign can tell at a glance whether things are going well.

Every vote is a moral argument

The options are never simply right or wrong. Raise taxes or lose the army; feed the people or fund the church. Chat argues before the vote, blames each other after, and the argument is the content.

Collapses are clips

A reign that ends in plague after eleven years of careful rule is a story people tell. Endings are big, narrated and specific to how the room failed.

Best as main content. Mob Rule builds over ten to twenty-five minutes, so it suits the middle of a stream rather than the first minute. Open with Flag Frenzy or Guess Rush, then hand the crown to the mob.

Questions about Mob Rule

How does chat control the kingdom?

Every year the narrator presents a situation and three choices. Viewers type 1, 2 or 3. The most-voted option happens, the four stats move, and the picture of the kingdom changes to match.

What are the four stats?

Treasury, army, people and faith. Every decision pushes some up and some down. Let any of them hit the floor — or the ceiling — and the reign ends: bankruptcy, invasion, revolt, or a church that decides it no longer needs a king.

How long does a reign last?

Anywhere from ten minutes to twenty-five. Cautious rooms last longer; rooms that pick the funniest option every year do not, and that is also a good stream.

What happens when the reign ends?

A narrated ending that matches how it fell, a summary of how many years the room survived, and a new reign begins. The years-survived number is the thing regulars compete against.

Is it narrated?

Yes. A British narrator reads every event, choice and consequence out loud, so the game carries a stream on its own.
